More About Me

Loretta Jankowski has written prize-winning music for orchestra, voice and concert band and more than 30 principal works for a variety of musical media, including a film score. Her music has been performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, Holy Trinity Chapel at New York University, Yale University, and the Fifth International Festival of Experimental Music in Bourges, France.

 

Major performances of Loretta Jankowski’s music have been given by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, Composers Concordance, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Mount Vernon Chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey Chamber Music Society, the United States Bicentennial Band, and the Eastman Wind Ensemble. Among the noteworthy artists who have performed her music are Maestro Julius Rudel, soprano Teresa Kubiak, tenor George Shirley, and pianist Carol Ferri.

 

Loretta Jankowski was awarded a doctorate in composition by the Eastman School of Music. She studied at the Eastman School, the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), the Higher School of Music in Kraków. Poland, the Dartington Summer School of Music (U.K.), and the Juilliard School, Pre-College Division.

 

The composers with whom Loretta Jankowski studied are Samuel Adler, William Albright, Warren Benson, Harrison Birtwhistle, Joseph Schwantner, and Marek Stachowski. 

 

Loretta Jankowski is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award from the Piano Teachers Society of America and various other honors, including first place recognition in the 1989 Art Song Competition of the National Association of the Teachers of Singing.

Her teaching career includes faculty positions with Kean University (N.J.), the Lin Hill School for the Gifted (N.J.), East Carolina State University, Ball State University, California State University (Long Beach), and Northern Illinois University.

Currently, Loretta is the Chairperson of the Delaware Area Chapter of the PIANO TEACHERS SOCIETY OF AMERICA and is also an active member of the DELAWARE STATE MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.
